Sweeney’s Walnut Street Tavern is opening in Franklinton

Last week, Franklinton got a new watering hole with Sweeney’s Walnut Street Tavern! The project comes from Jim Sweeney, Franklinton’s unofficial mayor, who has long been involved in various projects in the up-and-coming neighborhood, including 14 years as executive director of the Franklinton Development Association.

The tavern was previously Sweeney’s home and is one of several old homes lining Walnut Street that are being converted into commercial uses, from restaurants and bars to live music venues and apartments.

Sweeney’s features an indoor bar, an upstairs space, and front and back patios.

On opening night, patrons enjoyed music by Lydia Loveless and Joey Eich.

We were lucky enough to be there the moment local artist Andrew Lundberg hung the sign for Sweeney’s out front!

Sweeney’s is open Monday through Wednesday, 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Thursday, 3pm to midnight; Fri-Sat, 1pm to midnight; and Sunday from 1-10 p.m
