If I can identify one trend in recent years, it’s the influx of piss donuts to Columbus. Mochi is a sticky Japanese rice flour that is sticky and spongy when made into a dough. When fried, they become these soft and airy delicacies – one of the most popular forms is these döner!
And this is where a place like Mochi Ring comes into play.
Mochi Ring is one of several storefronts that offer mochi donuts, and although they offer drinks and a few savory items, donuts are the name of the game.
And like many of the newer Asian-inspired cafes and shops (like their Kenny Center neighbor VGET Cafe), the Mochi Ring is designed—both as a product and as a decor—to be colorful and engaging when featured on social media.
They usually feature 10 or more flavors of mochi donuts, all arranged on trays. You’ll see flavors like Fruity Pebbles…
…Oreos…
…steal…
…and many more! They will also alternate with seasonal flavors.
Each of the donuts is segmented into eight bites, making them fun to eat and easy to share.
You can order them individually or get a whole box of them!
In addition to donuts, Mochi Ring offers a variety of milk teas, fruit teas and new sparkling lemonades.
And if you need a spicy bite to offset the sweet, they offer Korean rice hot dogs, like corn dogs or mozzarella sticks dipped in rice batter, fried crispy and often topped with diced potatoes, crumbled ramen or even Cheetos.
They also recently added these potato tornadoes: spiral-cut fries on a stick. They’re crunchy, sprinkled with spices, and fun to both eat and Instagram.
Mochi Ring is open Wednesday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed Tuesdays).
