This summer, the folks behind Agave & Rye opened a new companion restaurant in Grandview called Loco Social. It’s attached to the taco joint’s neighborhood location, in the former Spagio Cellars space for those who remember!
Loco Social is part of the EPIC Brands restaurant group, which operates Agave & Rye locations around Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and other states, as well as Son of a Butcher Steakhouse in Liberty Township. They also operated old Columbus eateries like de-NOVO Bistro and Bar downtown.
Their overall branding and decor – and Loco Social fits the bill perfectly – is, in a word, BUSY. There is a strong preference for bright pinks and greens, the walls are completely covered in murals, the lighting is big and dramatic, the seating is eclectic, greenery fills every nook and cranny. It can be a lot to take in.
The menu, meanwhile, is just as frenetic, both in design and scope. Loco Social focuses on all-day brunch + tiki cocktails + pastries + bubble tea. It’s fun, yes, but also a lot to process.
There it is Lavender state of mind with prosecco, sweet vermouth, sparkling lemon soda and lavender simple syrup. The edge is sprinkled with lavender colored sugar.
That’s it The morning after Bloody Marymade simply with vodka, homemade Bloody Mary mix and “bites”.
And then the menu dives into acai bowls, salads, sandwiches, pancakes and French toast, biscuits, egg dishes, even a few agave and rye classics.
That’s it Aloha Salmon Bowlquite generously loaded with salmon, edamame, mushrooms, cucumbers, wasabi mayo and more. It was filling and well seasoned.
Or the beautifully covered ones Bring the spicy to the baby benedict with andouille sausage, poached eggs, chili de arbol, cotija and hollandaise on biscuits. Very well done as far as benedicts go.
The biriya hash it might not be much to look at, but it’s still interesting. Slow-cooked biriya is mixed with peppers, jalapeños, and jalapeño bacon lutenica on a hash brown, served with two eggs made to order.
We stopped by to browse the eclectic mix of pastries and have a bubble tea before we left. They also sell juices and have a full espresso bar.
Loco Social is a bit of a journey, but we were surprised by the quality of the fare. Definitely worth checking out!
It is open from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm daily.
