High Bank Distillery debuts its third restaurant on Tuesday, August 20! The newest outpost of the award-winning distillery is located in Uptown Westerville, in the former post office building on South State Street.
The space has a modern makeover that mirrors High Bank’s other two locations – Grandview and Gahanna.
The large outdoor area features tall windows and a skylight.
And on the south-facing wall is a long bar decorated with white subway tiles.
High Bank serves lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, with a full bar selection that spans Ohio beers, wines, cocktails and – as expected – a substantial cocktail menu highlighting their whiskeys, vodkas and gins.
There it is smoked old fashioned made with their Whiskey War.
And there it is Blood Orange G&T made with their Statehouse gin and house tonic.
We tried a collection of starters starting with deviled eggs flavored with a hint of white barbecue sauce, spicy crunchy arbol chili powder and a garnish of dill pickles.
The Crispy Brussels where a big hit: they’re covered in a sweet chili glaze and sprinkled with cilantro and sweet potato.
You can’t argue with a plate of nachos or: house-made tortilla chips piled high with pico de gallo, queso, feta, sour cream and avocado. You can also add tinga chicken, chorizo or barbacoa.
We made a quick stop for round two, so No worries with Whiskey War, Buffalo Trace, Aperol, Averna, demerara and citrus.
You can also try the spirits! I ordered a clean pour of Whiskey War Double Oaked.
And then it was time for dinner! The Korean Philly is stuffed with shaved fish, pickled onions and peppers, provolone and gochujang aioli. All sandwiches come with fries and an excellent homemade aioli.
The High Bank Deluxe is an easy-to-love classic cheeseburger: a pair of Ohio beef patties on a brioche roll with American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and house-made “secret sauce.”
The spicy chicken sandwich is very rich. It takes a large piece of fried chicken, smothered in brine, generously covered in spicy sauce and served with pickles and Duke’s mayo on a brioche roll. The sauce had hints of Korean gochujang mixed with spicy Nashville chicken seasoning. We ended up re-ordering it with the sauce on the side as it registered as too salty for our taste.
The lunch/dinner menu also includes salads, several pizzas and a quartet of signature dishes such as peppadew pasta, steak, a chicken shwarma bowl and fish and chips. Overall, the fish and chips were well put together: crispy breading, tender fish, well-seasoned chips and a lovely homemade tartar sauce.
High Bank falls within Westerville’s DORA boundaries and they have a patio to the side with a small “Dora Bar” sign. So they’ll be serving takeaway drinks soon!
