There’s always a lot going on in the Columbus restaurant world! Here’s the latest:
- Recently on social media, Mission Coffee Co. is teasing a return to its original store at 11 Price Ave. in the Short North. More specific details have not been released, such as a timeline or status of the cafe and roastery at 2060 S. High St.
- After less than a year in business, Adelaide’s Old North Gin Store has closed and the business has been put up for sale.
- A new Kurdish restaurant called Silav Cafe & Grill has opened downtown at 330 S. High St., in the former Bonjour Cafe storefront. It is currently open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, with a grand opening in August. 11.
- The owner of Lifestyle Café in Olde Towne East shared that the business will change in some way in the coming days. It’s unclear if this is a new iteration of the business or a shutdown. Chef and owner Shana Dean said the cafe will be open with limited hours and a menu this weekend, August. 3-4. (Read more about the cafe in my 2022 feature on Ohio Magazine.)
- A new fried chicken spot called Overdose Hot Chicken soft opened this week at 3260 W. Broad St. at the Hilltop. A number of residents and some local officials complained about the name, especially given the restaurant’s proximity to nearby addiction treatment centers.
- La Loma Mexican Restaurant is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday, August. 3. Located at 3051 Northwest Blvd. in Upper Arlington. This consolidates locations in Akron and Canton.
- The owner of Zammy’s Vegan Kitchen has announced that the plant-based eatery will close after business on Saturday, August. 2. Zammy’s is located at 1155 Worthington Woods Boulevard; open in spring 2022.
- Korean fried chicken chain CM Chicken has been confirmed to be opening a fourth central Ohio location at 1011 W. Fifth Ave. in the fifth from the northwest. It is slated to open sometime this fall.
- Multiple sources have reported that Three Creeks Kitchen & Cocktails will replace the former O’Toole’s Irish Pub at 258 Granville St. in Gahanna this fall.
- The Peanut Shoppe downtown is closed for regular business hours in preparation for a move across Capitol Square under new owners. The store will remain open for pop-up hours associated with downtown events. (Read more about the store and its history in my Ohio.org post!)
- I don’t know how I missed this, but G’s Shepard Springs Café opened a few months ago at 900 Sunbury Rd. in the Shepherd’s Quarter.
- Ohio’s sales tax holiday began this week and runs until midnight in August. 8. This year, the holiday was extended from seven days to 10 and includes dining at a restaurant (but not alcohol purchases).
