Fire Sky Asian Cuisine brings heat to Bethel Road

We wouldn’t call ourselves Chinese food connoisseurs, but we have a lot of favorite Chinese places around Columbus, from NE Chinese to ChiliSpot to Main Moon. This week we got to try a new restaurant on Bethel Road, Fiery Sky Asian Kitchen, and I saw that it was going into our regular rotation.

Fiery Sky opened in a store that previously housed two Mediterranean eateries. It is operated by Lu Sha, who originally opened Xia Xia Western Chinese Cuisine in Kenny Center Mall and Mashida Chicken in Delaware.

The shopping plaza surrounding the restaurant will be familiar to many guests as it is home to eateries such as New India, Meshikou, KPOT and many more.

We sampled our way through the menu and really enjoyed each of the dishes. There were both new and familiar flavors and it was a testament to the quality (okay, and maybe our hunger) that we polished off almost everything.

We picked a few favorites and followed Lou’s suggestions as well. The cucumber salad offers a nice, refreshing start. Cucumbers are sliced and almost lightly crushed, then tossed liberally in hot oil.

The salt and pepper crispy pork is easy to love, with tender pieces of pork fried in a well-seasoned and crispy breading.

And we never turn down spicy dumplings, so we thought we’d get a bowl of them Sichuan Spicy Wontons. They are handmade, filled with pork and drizzled with spicy butter. Pro tip: save the butter to pour over your rice later.

Our guys are kind of experts General Tso’s Chickenand they gave special props to the Fiery Sky version. The chicken is tender, the sauce slightly sweet without being too heavy or cloying. I especially liked how the broccoli absorbed the sauce.

One of Fiery Sky’s signature dishes is dry pot meals, so we gave it a try dry cauliflower casserole with spices. It’s stir-fried with thickly sliced vegetables and chunks of pork, served warm in a small wok at the table so it’s sizzling hot.

Lou recommended a selection of their noodles so we tried it fried udon noodles with chicken. Everything came together very well in a flavorful sauce.

And we love a good one Chongqing Spicy Popcorn Chicken. Fiery Sky does not disappoint. The diced, breaded and fried chicken thighs were very tender and peppery.

So if you are a fan of Chinese food, I think Fiery Sky is definitely a place to support. There’s something for everyone, no matter how adventurous you are or how familiar you are with Chinese cuisine. The service was very friendly and super fast and the menu big enough that I think we’ll have to make a few more visits to try more!

Fiery Sky is open Sunday-Monday and Wednesday-Thursday from 11am to 9pm. and Friday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. It is closed on Tuesdays.
