The Kenny Center Mall is full of hidden gems, from unique shops to culinary gems like Xia Xia Chinese Cuisine, ChiliSpot, Mochi Ring, and all Japanese market winners like Belle’s Bread, Akai Hana, and Tensuke Market.
Tucked away in one of the harder to find corners, next to Kung Fu Tea, is a newer cafe called VGET Cafe.
The space is clearly aimed more at spreading out. It’s largely empty except for a few ordering kiosks, three tables and a small food window.
The owners said VGET stands for “making a better life together,” and the phrase is written in a neon sign near the door.
The beverage menu includes iced coffees, hot and cold lattes, teas and smoothies. We tried on honey sugar latte and on matcha latte.
One section of the menu is dedicated to Taiwanese rice wraps, which are giant wraps of sticky rice, meat and vegetables in seaweed. We tried signature rice wrap with shredded dried pork, Chinese pickles, crispy fried dough and green salad. It’s a curious combination of textures, from the crunchier fried pork and fried batter, plus the softer rice and lettuce.
One of their big features – and certainly an Instagram-worthy one – is the Korean Egg Toast. They consist of a thick slice of toast, cut in half and filled to bursting with a layered omelette, meat, cheese, lettuce, then a generous drizzle of dressings.
We tried Thai toast with shrimp and eggsstuffed with shrimp, eggs, cheddar and lettuce, then drizzled with Thai chili sauce.
It’s no surprise that they are very messy to eat. Overall, the components come together quite well, although the lettuce becomes a little limp, compressed against the warm ingredients.
We tried too New Orleans Chicken and Egg Toast. Includes chicken cutlet, eggs, cheddar and lettuce drizzled with mayo and ketchup. The server asked if we wanted a cutlet with or without the skin, suggesting it with the skin on because it was a bit crispier. We didn’t realize it also meant bone! So just a warning if you are ordering this toast.
VGET Cafe is open Monday to Friday 7:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am to 7pm. They are also active on all delivery platforms.
