Columbus is already a coffeehouse powerhouse, but we’ve seen a steady influx of new coffeehouses in recent months. Here are eight new coffee shops in and around Columbus!
Royal Flamingo Coffee has been roasting for the past few years, going so far as to win awards nationally and internationally. Now they finally have their own I Like It Like That daytime cocktail bar space. The bar is part of Natalie’s, accessible from the patio. At the Royal Flamingo shop, you can try unique roasts in everything from batch drinks to espresso and cold brew.

Central Ohio welcomes a number of Yemeni coffee shops these days, including Finjin Cafe and Qamaria Yemeni Coffee locations in Hilliard and in Lewis Center. And recently, Qahwah Coffee joined downtown Columbus with a beautifully decorated space and a full menu of traditional Yemeni coffees and snacks.

Honey Cup started as a trailer on the corner of Hudson and Summit in 2021 before migrating indoors to the Rambling House music bar just down the road. In recent weeks, they finally moved into their own Summit storefront, just south of the Hudson, turning a long, narrow space into a cozy storefront with all of their signature brews.

Standardized Brewing has opened in the Evans Farm complex in Lewis Center, an interesting new neighborhood that includes a small “downtown” of shops and apartments. In the front corner is the brewery, which opens early every day with a full coffee bar, pastries and breakfast sandwiches.

Like Royal Flamingo, Black Kahawa has been a roaming roaster for several years. They focus on East African coffees and operate out of a trailer where they serve espresso drinks, batch brewed drinks and delicious cold brew. They have now parked the trailer at the northeast corner of Broad and High while they build a store there.

I love breweries and cocktail bars that open early like coffee shops (I’m looking at you, Royal Flamingo, Standardized Brewing, and Olentangy River Brewing!), and when Nocterra opened their new Audubon location, they wisely added early morning hours with a full coffee bar featuring Jennings Java. They have a lot of space so it will be a great place to work, meet or enjoy a quiet moment!

This week, the new owners of Mission Coffee returned the shop to its original space in the Short North. They did a soft opening with a new menu while building out the space on Price Avenue, just off High Street. For now it looks like it will be a companion to their South High Street cafe and roastery.

Crimson is a trendy coffee shop brand under Crimson Cup Coffee, debuting its first store in Easton in 2020. In late spring, they added a second store, this one in a brightly lit corner room in the Newman Center near Ohio State’s campus.
